My Warriors

This one's for you, Uncle Zac! Just thought you would enjoy knowing that the kids love their matching Rochester Warriors sweatshirts. Thanks! (I had a little trouble getting them to both look at the camera and smile at the same time...but these two pics turned out ok.)
I once heard a man (sorry, I can't remember who it was) pray for Mackenzie (this was before Josiah was born) and his prayer was that she would be a "warrior child for the Lord." At first that phrase seemed odd to me; the more I think about it, the more I love it! I truly do want my children to be warriors for the Lord. It was a neat prayer; these sweatshirts make me think of that prayer every time they wear them.

Snow?

Yesterday was a snow day! Well, almost snow, anyways. Since it was the biggest snow we have had in Knoxville in the past couple of years, we made the most of it! I dressed the kids in their snowsuits (You know, the ones I bought while dreaming of a nice, big snow!) and went out to attempt to play in what little snow was actually on the ground. I have to say, the snow falling was beautiful! Nice, big, pretty flakes. We had a wonderful time, though the kids faces got cold quickly; they were ready to come back inside after just a short time of playing in it. We came in and had some hot chocolate to complete the experience. Both kids were more interested in the marshmallows than in the drink itself. :) Fun times. (Funny side note: Both kids snow suits are a size 2T and they fit, though Mackenzie is mostly in 3T and some 4T clothes, and Josiah typically wears 24 month clothes.)

Easter Cars!

Tuesday afternoon I went to work for a short time (4 hr shift), and David kept the kids here at home. While Josiah napped, David and Mackenzie had some "Family Fun" together. They made these cute Easter Cars! I saw the idea in a magazine called Family Fun. (Thanks to my mom and Mark for the annual subscription!) It has some really simple yet cute ideas. We are enjoying using some of their ideas for fun projects to do together. I picked up all the ingredients earlier in the week...David and Mackenzie put the Easter Cars together. It made for some fun Father-Daughter time and yummy treats, too! The ingredients: Swiss Cake Rolls, Peeps Bunnies, Life Savers, Jelly Beans, and Icing for the glue.

Can you believe Easter is in less than one month?! Seems pretty earlier to me!

"Josiah Soup!" (title created by Will Taylor)

I think it is time for Josiah to have a post, too. I have several on Mackenzie lately as she has hit milestones, etc. So, this one is for "my little boy," Josiah. When we got home earlier today, just the two of us, he decided to pull pots out in the kitchen. He loves to make noise, and he loves to climb. These pictures capture the moment quite well.

School Day!

Update: The day went very well. Mackenzie loved school. She says her favorite part was lunch. She says she has a new friend named Emilia. She liked the slides at recess, though she mostly played by herself as she has not met many other children yet. The teachers said she did not ask for us at all. No tears were shed. They said she jumped right in and did fine. She is excited about going back to school on Wednesday. Her bedtime prayer tonight was, "Dear God, Please help us to have a good day at school. Amen." I thought that was pretty cute. When I asked her what she did at school today, she said, "I learned a memory verse and I even got to hold the Bible, Mommy!" Needless to say, I feel VERY GOOD about the school she attends. What a blessing and answered prayer that the day went well for everyone!!! Thanks for your prayers and support and encouragement. Mackenzie at home before her first day of preschool.
Mackenzie and Trinity

I am again typing through teary eyes. I held up just fine through the whole morning until now. Josiah and I are home; Mackenzie is at school. I did have to wake her up this morning about an hour earlier than she usually wakes up. She woke up excited and ready to go. I took a few pics here at home and a few at school before leaving her there.

Her questions on the way to school:

"Mommy, who will take care of me today?"

"What does Mrs. Rachel look like?"

"Is Josiah coming with me?"

Once we arrived at school, she insisted on carrying her lunchbox by herself. We went inside and she put her things in her locker. After that, she just kinda stood there taking it all in and watching the other kids play. One little girl, Trinity, was quick to talk to Mackenzie. She is in a picture with Mackenzie who was just not too sure about everything. Mackenzie found her seat with her name tag. She seemed happy to be there. Never cried. Never asked to leave. Never asked me to stay. Just looked a little unsusre. Perhaps she will quickly figure out the routine and meet the other children.

Mackenzie's First Day

I am typing this through red, tear-filled, blurry eyes. I just tucked Mackenzie into bed as usual. David rocked Josiah and tucked him into his crib. Nothing is too out-of-the-ordinary, except that Mackenzie's first day of preschool is tomorrow. She has begged to go for months now. All her friends go to school. She is ready. I am not. I want to keep my baby close forever. I cannot. She will grow. She has grown. She is growing. I must let go and trust that the Lord will watch over her and what goes into her mind to form who she is each day. I must trust that He is in control over the influences that will enter her world. I must know that His plan for "my" child is much greater and more perfect than mine. After all, she is His child first, and only entrusted to me for a short time. I pray that He will use me as an instrument in her life. May I be instrumental in guiding her to Him by living a life in service to Him.

She fell asleep before I even left her room tonight. I scratched her back as usual. I tried to leave before she fell asleep. She said, "Mom, stay with me just a little while longer." Within seconds, she fell completely asleep. I do not usually sit and watch her while she sleeps. I did tonight and left her room with tears streaming down my face. My heart is so full of emtions. I am sad, excited, anxious, and proud. I know she will be just fine and I will too, but I am still flooded with emotions.

My little girl is 3 1/2 years old today. I never intended to send her to school any sooner than Kindergarten (age 5). That would be 1 1/2 years from now...not now. The more we learned about full day Kindergarten, five days a week, the more we decided she really would benefit from a two day a week Mother's Day Out program to prepare her for the mandatory routine that starts in Kindergarten. In order to secure a spot for her to begin the Mother's Day Out of our choice starting in August, we began making phone calls earlier this week. Mackenzie, Josiah, and I went to visit the school on Friday. Mackenzie loved it. She does not want to wait until August. She has been asking, "Is it August yet?" and "Am I four yet?" until I finally asked the program director if there are any available spots in the 3's class. The answer: yes, there is one available spot that just opened up this past week. Coincidence? No, more likely Providence. That vacancy would fill quickly by someone. I am thankful that it is Mackenzie who will have that spot. I drop her off at 9:00am for her very first day of school...a year and a half earlier than I intended. I believe she is ready. I really think I am ready, too. But, she is my firstborn. I am her momma. I love my baby girl. It is so hard to trust and let go. So, I end the day today with very mixed emotions.

I have packed her a little pink backpack and a princess lunch box, which we picked out together yesterday. We have her clothes laid out and ready for the morning. She usually does not wake up until 9am or later...I will probably have to wake her up. That, too, will be hard for me. I have the camera ready and plan to get a picture of her in the morning. Pray that I will hold together and that she will have a wonderful first day. I will update you all later!

To complicate things...I work tomorrow afternoon. That means I won't even get to talk to her teacher at the end of the day! David is picking her up and he is looking forward to getting to see her classroom, too. Mackenzie is a Daddy's Girl. He will ask questions; everything will be fine.

Poor Josiah won't know what to do without his sister by his side tomorrow. I hope he does not seem completely lost without her. He turned 21 months old today. He, too, is growing up too fast. Perhaps he and I will do something special before I go to work. I love them both dearly. I want what is best for them. I hope we all make the transition smoothly! Kinda silly transition, but for me it seems huge right now. :)

On a lighter note...David's quote for the day, "I think I caught most of it," referring to the chocolate milk vomit in his hands. What a day!

The Three Girls--Together Again!

Laura Miller, Abby Fischer, & Mackenzie Watson= Fun Times.
We thoroughly enjoyed getting to visit with the Fischer family while they were in town this weekend. Thanks to the Miller's for hosting us on short notice (as Josiah threw up earlier today and therefore we could not host) and letting the girls play. Good times. Precious friendships.

Additional Palace Park Pics

Josiah was not in the mood for pictures; that is why we have so many of Mackenzie in these two posts but not as many of Josiah.

Palace Park

The whole park is like a castle. The kids are riding a wooden train.
Josiah paused for a moment which turned out to be a great photo-op!
Mackenzie & Me
Mackenzie driving something. (They had a truck and a boat).

We had some wonderful family time this afternoon, in spite of the cold, cloudy weather. We decided to bundle up and go on an adventure...to a new park! David had noticed a new park in a neighboring county in route to a friend's house a few weeks ago. Today we loaded up and drove about 15 minutes to this fabulous park! We were the only ones there. (I'm sure that did not have anything to do with the weather; he, he.) The whole "palace" is made of wood and has many areas for the kids to discover. Who knew a park like this was so close to our house?! We will definately make return trips in the future! Above are several pictures we snapped while at the park today. Enjoy!

My Little Gymnist & Nona & Mzee's Visit

My momma (Nona) and Mark (Mzee) came to visit this weekend. We loved having them here, and we miss them now that they have gone back home to Arkansas. Here are some pictures we snapped while playing at Sprout with them.

Below is a picture I snapped tonight during Mackenzie's gymnastic lesson. Yes, the room is green but not THAT green! Oh, well. This is not the greatest picture in the world, but it is the best I got tonight, so I am posting it anyways. Mackenzie took ballet last semester and tolerated it; she is taking gymnastics this semester and LOVING it.
Babysitters?

For those of you local friends who read this blog...Any suggestions for a reliable babysitter for a Monday and Tuesday afternoon (about 3 hrs each day) while I go to work for two half days later this month? I have been given a few suggestions already but thought I'd gather any others you might have to offer as I have not yet made any phone calls! I do love getting those few random hours of work here and there, but it is hard to feel good about leaving the kids, too. Realize, I have not worked at all since October...I do love my job! The flexibility is wonderful. I just want to be sure the kids are cared for while I am not with them. Oh the deliema's of motherhood!

And, how do you make this spell checker work, anyhow?! I misspelled words on purpose and it does nothing...what am I doing wrong? How do you use the spell checker on blogger? Anyone? Thanks in advance! :)

Playing at the Park

Hooray for a warm, sunny day! We were definately ready for some nice warm weather. We met some dear friends for lunch at McDonald's. The reason we went to McDonald's: so the kids could play on the playground...which this McDonald's did NOT have--HA. So, we enjoyed gourmet McD's food, loaded back into the vans, and headed to a park. I enjoyed getting to visit with Sara; Josiah, Laura, and Mackenzie all enjoyed playing together. Definately a lovely day!

Sprout Studio

Well, I have not yet figured out how to rearrange this page. I am tired and so I'm posting it "as is!" Maybe another day I can master the art of putting the right picture in the right place, and typing the words where I really want them to go! For now, it's off to bed I go and onto the web this goes!

These are some fun pictures of the kids playing at Sprout Studio today. All four of us went, which made for some fun family time. Typically, the kids stay together as they enjoy playing together. (I am glad as that makes it easier to keep up with them!) I am thankful that we have places like Sprout for a change of scenary!

Better Late Than Never!

Well, Here it is...My first blog post! I am definately just learning this process, so this posting will be an experiement for me. In fact, I believe I'll stop typing now and just try it out! Next posting will be something more interesting, perhaps!
